Luxury self-catering cottages

The Fingals Apart cottages have evolved after 35 years of running Fingals Hotel under the same owner, Richard Johnston. It has been a long journey of organic growth around an aesthetic goal. Situated in a valley back from the river Dart, one of the jewels of England, Richard has endeavoured to mirror the natural beauty that surrounds Fingals, at the same time as preserving and doing justice to the elegant Queen Anne Manor farmhouse he now lives in with his wife Sheila.

After nearly half a lifetime of running a sociable hotel, Richard is taking more of a back seat and Sheila is running four lovely holiday homes which have been built with the help of an artist/architect friend Andras Kaldor. These are to add to the Upper and Lower Millhouse which was originally their home. In designing the holiday accommodation Sheila has endeavoured to make them homely with all mod cons, as well as keeping an eye on art and design, filling them with oriental carpets, antiques, objects d’art - often quirky - and original paintings by many of our local artists.

Sitting amongst exotic plants in our conservatory swimming-pool, looking at the huge mural (by Andras) makes watching over the kids a total pleasure. In the summer that exquisite, very English sound of a ball being played on the immaculate grass tennis court and the trickling of the stream nearby, gives one a feeling of nostalgia, belonging and sheer joy. Quirky, comfortable, unique, the cottage apartments are all of these. The luxury self-catering accommodation offers quiet, peace and harmony for couples, families or groups from two to twelve.

Fingals holiday homes are family friendly, child friendly, dog friendly ....and just plain friendly.
